Wallet
Recovery phrase
The phrase is the root of the HD wallet. GreyWallet cannot reconstruct it. Support will never ask for it.
A recovery phrase (seed phrase) is a human-readable encoding of the entropy that seeds the HD wallet. Anyone who has the phrase can derive the same accounts — on GreyWallet or on another wallet — if they also use the same path and index.
On create, GreyWallet lets you choose 18, 21, or 24 words. Length is not a security score. Operational accuracy is: a mistyped word is a different wallet.
Handling
- Write it offline. Paper or another method you control. Not a screenshot in photos or cloud.
- If you set a custom derivation path or a non-zero account index, store those with the phrase. The phrase alone on defaults will not reopen that account.
- Never enter the phrase on a website. GreyWallet import is in the app.
- Never send it to support@greywallet.app. A message that asks for it is not GreyWallet.
Lost phrase: the keys are not recoverable by GreyWallet or Grey Holdings. Forgotten Private Vaults pattern is the same class of failure — not reconstructable.
